TIANLANG Standing Double-Sided Light Box 85T — Freestanding SEG LED Display

A light box that leans against a wall only works if there is a wall.

Walk any exhibition hall, retail concourse, or corporate lobby and the highest-traffic positions are the ones with no wall at all — the center of an aisle, the mouth of a corridor, the middle of a trade show aisle where foot traffic splits two ways. A single-sided backlit display in that space wastes half its audience, because half the people walk past the back. A double-sided light box does not. It shows the same graphic, or two different graphics, to both directions simultaneously, and it does it from a freestanding base that needs no wall, no rigging point, and no permanent installation.

This is the 85T — our 85 mm deep standing double-sided SEG light box. The "T" stands for tower, and the 85 is the profile depth in millimeters. Eighty-five millimeters is thinner than our 120 mm booth system by a full third, and that matters for a freestanding unit because a tall, thin tower reads as elegant while a tall, thick one reads as a refrigerator. We build the 85T specifically for the positions where a display has to look good from every angle because there is no wall to hide behind.

Why Double-Sided Is Not Just Two Single-Sided Boxes Glued Together

A double-sided light box sounds straightforward — put LEDs in the middle, put a graphic on each face, done. The engineering is in the middle.

If you simply mount two LED strips back-to-back, the light from each side bounces off the other strip's backing and creates a hot band down the center of each graphic. We solve this with a central diffuser plate — a semi-transparent polycarbonate sheet that sits between the two LED arrays and evens the light before it reaches either face. The LEDs are 24V, mounted on strips with a 160-degree beam angle, spaced so that at 85 mm total depth the light is uniform across both faces with no center band and no edge shadowing. The diffuser also adds rigidity, which matters for a freestanding tower that gets bumped by passersby.

The frame is extruded aluminum with a silicone-edge groove on both faces, so each side takes a separate SEG graphic. You can run the same artwork on both sides, or you can print one message for traffic coming from the left and a different message for traffic coming from the right. That is a detail retail clients ask for once they see it — a promotion on one face, a product launch on the other, both in the same physical unit. The graphics are UV printed on textile fabric, which gives a deeper black and a sharper line than dye-sub for high-contrast artwork, and the silicone edge sewn around the perimeter presses into the groove in seconds. No zippers, no tensioning, no tools.

The Base, and Why a Freestanding Tower Does Not Tip

A 2-meter-tall light box with a 10 kg graphic on top is a lever, and every convention center has a cleaner with a vacuum hose that will test that lever at 5 AM. The base on the 85T is a weighted steel plate, 400 x 400 mm, powder-coated to match the frame, with adjustable rubber feet so the tower stands plumb on a carpet or a tiled floor. The upright extrusions bolt into the base from underneath — the bolts are hidden, not visible on the show floor — and the whole unit breaks down into the base, two uprights, a top crossbar, and two graphics. It packs into a wheeled bag and a single person can carry it.

We learned the base weight by trial. Our first version used a lighter plate and we had two units tip over at a retail show in Shanghai — not because of a collision, but because a heavy door nearby created a pressure differential when it opened. The current base is heavy enough that a pressure differential will not move it, and light enough that one person can still lift the bag. That is the balance, and it is the kind of detail you only learn by having units fall over in public. We would rather tell you about it now than have you learn it at your show.

Where the 85T Actually Lives

The 85T is not a booth system. It is a display element, and it works best in three kinds of spaces.

The first is the trade show aisle. A 20x20ft booth with three 85T towers placed at the front corners and the center of the opening creates a lit entrance without blocking the view into the booth. Visitors see the brand from both directions, and the towers are light enough to reposition between shows. A lot of our exhibition contractor clients buy the 85T as an add-on to a 120MM booth system — the booth is the walls, the 85T is the signage that pulls people in.

The second is retail and corporate lobbies. A freestanding double-sided tower in a shopping mall concourse, a hotel lobby, or a corporate atrium does not need a wall and does not need permission to drill anything. It plugs into a standard outlet — 100-240V universal, so it works in any country — and the graphic changes in ten minutes when the promotion changes. A mall that runs a new campaign every month can keep the same towers for years and only swap the fabric.

The third is wayfinding and registration. A double-sided tower at a conference registration desk, with the event logo on one side and the schedule on the other, is more visible than a printed banner because it is backlit. People read backlit signs first. That is not an opinion; it is why every airport in the world uses backlit signage for directions.

The most common mistake on a double-sided graphic is designing for one face and forgetting that the other face is seen by people walking the opposite direction — the text has to read correctly from both sides, and the dieline makes that obvious before anything is printed.
